An example of multivariate visualization

Here is an example of a multivariate visualization using R Lang with a CSV containing all the electric vehicles in the state of Washington. The data set was taken from www.data.gov The dataset does seem to consist of hybrid cars and not all of the vechicles being stricly electric powered only. Due to this issue I removed many of the makes and showed only the most popular brands. Below are the results.

The result show the amount of the cars on the Y axis and the car's production years on the X axis. It was suprised to see that Ford had a hybrid vehicle purchased as early as 1998. Since we are still early in the 2024 year it explains part of the drop off even though 2024 vehicles are usually availble during the prior year.

What does this data show
The data shows that from 2008 Tesla and Ford were the two main players in the electrified vehicle market space. You are able to see whenever the different manufacturesres started to gain marketshare. However something that is commonly known is that Tesla has been the most dominant manufacture making elctrified vehicles. Lucid being a pretty new company has the least amount of registerations and only 3 years on the graph.

Designing a good visual
I removed some of the extra lesser bought and lesser known manufactueres to make the scale of the visual a little more understandable. I tried to use colors that were able to distingish the different makes easily. The visual could be improved with more balance had i filtered out all vehicles prior to 2012. This allows you to gauge how much of a difference between the different brands a little different by having a more zoomed in view, leaving out the years were there is not much useable data. By removing some of the years with little data you are able to achieve better balance and contrast by being able to see the bit of spacing between 2014 and 2017.
